Farmers Market in Santa Rosa

One of the best ways to explore Sonoma County’s backroads is by visiting local farms, and thanks to the maps created by Sonoma County Farm Trails — a nonprofit organization devoted to creating and enhancing relationships between growers and eaters — it’s easy to find farms that match your interests and welcome your visits.

Throughout the county, in all sorts of terrain, family farms and artisanal growers are creating agricultural products that reflect their own unique terroir.

Information about these farms comes in two online formats, interactive and downloadable.

The free, online Interactive Farm Trails Map allows you to find experiences (tours of a dairy goat farm at Redwood Hill Farm – Capracopia), products (lavender from Bees N Blooms), methods (organic cheese from Bohemian Creamery), and services (CSAs from Tara Firma Farms) by selecting criteria and then pinpointing the results on a map. The Interactive Map contains all the latest information about farms and artisan foodcrafters (such as cheesemakers).

The free Downloadable Map & Guide is published on a regular basis. It contains helpful information, photographs, charts, capsule descriptions of farms and other agri-tourism destinations, days and times they’re open for visits, and much more helpful information. It’s a great assist in planning your farm visits. However, keep in mind that its static nature means that, as the year progresses, some information may not remain current.

Together, we can protect and preserve the beauty and natural resources of Sonoma County for generations to come. Check out our page on Sustainable Travel, and look over the Leave No Trace Seven Principles.

Using one or both of these maps to plan your route, you’ll soon be off on a beautiful country drive that offers adventurous and educational stops at local farms. Depending on your choices, you and your family could pick produce, pet sheep and goats, milk a cow, learn how to irrigate a field, or take a cooking class. Some adventures are free, while others carry a fee that helps supplement the farm’s income.

Happy Farm Trails!
