There are few things better in life than fresh-from-the-sea goodness draped in garlic butter and kissed with lemon, or deep-fried and dunked in tangy tartar sauce. The small town of Bodega Bay is big on excellent restaurants, where the chefs shop the docks daily for fresh, sustainably caught seafood and prepare their dishes in many mouthwatering fashions.

Here are some of the top restaurants in Bodega Bay for Sonoma County seafood.

Address:
800 Bay Hwy.
Bodega Bay, CA 94923

Located at the Inn at the Tides, the Tides restaurant in Bodega Bay is known as the backdrop for scary scenes in Alfred Hitchcock's horror classic "The Birds."' And yes, this oceanfront eatery specializes in locally produced seafood, like breakfasts of grilled snapper, eggs, and hash browns; a cioppino lunch stocked with Dungeness crab, prawns, scallops, clams, and mussels; or Pacific red snapper for dinner.

Address:
1910 Westshore Rd.
Bodega Bay, CA 94923

One of the best-known restaurants in Sonoma County is a tiny cafe that looks more bait shop than eatery — Spud Point Crab Company. The cafe is owned by two long-time locals of Bodega Bay, Tony and Carol Anello. The seafood served at Spud Point is brought right off the docks from the family's marina across the street and is often caught by Tony and his sons.

During the season (November-June), watch Dungeness crab cooked whole in the boiler right outside the store, then buy it by the pound to take home. Or, if you're feeling picnic-y, take a seat at an outdoor table and dig into crabcakes, crab cocktail, or crab sandwiches. Oh, and don't forget the clam chowder! Make sure everyone gets their own pint — it's just that good!

Like Spud Point, The Boat House is owned by a long-standing member of the Bodega fishing community — Captain Rick Powers. His schooner hauls in Sonoma Coast crustaceans, which he crafts into buttery crabcake sandwiches. The menu also includes light-as-air fish and chips, briny oysters, and breaded clam strips ... all best enjoyed on the outdoor, dog-friendly patio overlooking the bay.

Fishetarian Fish Market

Address:
599 CA-1
Bodega Bay, CA 94923

In 2012, Shame and Dana Lucas opened the Fishetarian Fish Market with the goal to bring "healthy seafood choices" to their beautiful beach town. In addition to selling fresh seafood, the market features a menu of fish and chips, clam chowder, grilled fish tacos, and more, with gluten-free and vegetarian options, all using organic and locally-grown ingredients.

La Bodeguita Mexican Grill

Address:
2001 CA-1
Bodega Bay, CA 94923

Looking for a little international variety? With quality ingredients and traditional recipes, La Bodeguita Mexican Grill serves authentic Mexican cuisine with seafood as the star ingredient. On their menu you'll find an array of seafood burritos as well as ceviche, fried calamari, and crab enchiladas.
