Redwood Hill Farm, Sebastopol

In good spring weather, Sebastopol’s Redwood Hill Farm — a goat dairy — offers guided tours, private tours, and “kid cuddle days” with adorable baby goats! Learn how to milk and experience sustainable farming, from the farm’s tracking solar array and rainwater tanks to innovative fodder crops. This Certified Humane farm also includes chickens, beehives, olive and fruit orchards, and a market with award-winning goat cheese, seasonal fruit, as well as skin-nourishing products produced on the farm. Achadinha Cheese Company, Petaluma

The Achadinha Cheese Company (Osh-a-deen-a) offers 90-minute farm tours and cheese-making classes in the rolling hills about four miles southwest of downtown Petaluma. Led by Jim and Donna Pacheco and their children, Achadinha is a family-operated ranch where they milk the cows and goats and make farmstead cheeses. Farming has been in this family for generations, and on this site, in addition to cows, you may also see they raise pigs, sheep, horses, chickens, and ducks. Tara Firma Farms, Petaluma

Also south of Petaluma’s downtown area, Tara Firma Farms gives free visitor tours most Saturdays and Sundays. Come out to the countryside, stretch your legs, and find out what a fully operational sustainable farm looks like! Tara Firma Farms’ commitment to chemical-free farming means healthy eggs, grass-fed beef, and pastured poultry and pork. Dry Creek Peach & Produce, Healdsburg

Located in northern Sonoma County in the Dry Creek Valley near Healdsburg, Dry Creek Peach & Produce is a small, family-run farm that prides itself on producing some of the best organic peaches in the world. All its fruit is organically grown, tree-ripened, hand-picked, and hand-packed. Its farm stand is open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon from July to mid-September (call ahead to confirm store hours). They grow a variety of peaches, as well as nectarines, plums, and pluots, and offer organic peach jam.
