Shopping at the Windsor Town Green

Although many of its buildings aren't as historic as the local Victorians they so beautifully emulate, Windsor's downtown shopping district lacks nothing when it comes to charm.

Shops and neighborhood eateries surround a spacious town green, which offers live music and events throughout the year. The shops are locally owned and run, so any conversations you happen to strike up with the shopkeeper will very likely yield a treasure of regional history and great reviews for food, walks, and events. Here's a quick overview.

Spruce up your hotel room with a fresh bouquet from Atrellis Flower and Gift Shop, which features flowers, plants, and wine country gifts.

Something Special Jewelers

This shop is owned by a husband and wife team. The husband, Richard, is a trained gemologist who is a fanatic about beautifully crafted, unique jewelry. He offers a wonderful selection of antique jewelry for sale, some dating from the 1800s … including gold stickpins and Spanish doubloons. You'll also find magnificent Native American jewelry crafted in turquoise and silver.

Or you can check out the modern pieces by such masters as Liquid Metal by Sergio or Joseff of Hollywood. While you're there, you can get any jewelry fixed or watch batteries replaced, and find some handsome gifts to send home to boot.

Famous for its jaw dropping assortment of candy and vintage games, Cravin's offers everything from handcrafted chocolate truffles to vintage candy mustaches. In between there's a British section with, among other things, an expansive selection of Cadbury chocolates. Whatever your weakness — Moon Pies, artistically crafted marzipan fruit, or fiery mints — you'll find it here.

And whatever your taste — from sugarless treats to a specific flavor of jellybean, to chocolate dipped insects — it's all waiting for you. It's also a great place to indulge your cherished childhood candy memories, from red vines to 'penny candy' and more. Oh, leave room for a scoop or two of creamy gelato on your way out the door. Basically, this is a bad, bad place for a diet, but a lovely excuse for a mini-shopping spree.

Mark will work with you to create something that reflects whatever vision you have in mind — he designs and creates each piece himself, using whatever precious gems and metals strike your fancy. Take a little time to check out the original artwork and cards by local artists and accessories as well.
