Sonoma County's Most Gay-Friendly Accommodations

Sonoma County has well-established street cred as one of the country's most gay-friendly destinations, with a wide array of gay-owned and gay-friendly accommodations from north to south. Let this guide help you decide where to spend your LGBTQA-supporting dollars on Sonoma County lodging — and safely, proudly, and happily enjoy your stay.

Guerneville

Long a popular getaway for the LGBTQA community, this river town offers something for every taste. For example, enjoy a modern aesthetic and relaxing spa at the West Sonoma Inn & Spa; lounge and mingle 'round the pool at The R3 Hotel, which features a restaurant, bars, and an outdoor grill; kick back in charmingly rustic cottages, cabins, or multi-room suites at The Woods resort; or cozy into an individual cabin or platform tent at the Highlands Resort, which recently underwent renovations by its  owner, Crista Luedtke.

Luedtke, the chef and serial entrepreneur behind local hotspots boon eat + drink, BROT modern german, and El Barrio, also owns boon hotel + spa, a romantic, adults-only escape that offers the option of rooms and suites, glamping tents, or a cute vintage camper named "Boonito." Book a massage or treatment in the spa, bliss out in the saline pool, and enjoy the coastal breezes that keep this non-air-conditioned property naturally cool.

Monte Rio

Set 10 minutes west of Guerneville, on the north end of the 10-mile scenic stretch known as the Bohemian Highway, the hamlet of Monte Rio (pop. 1, 152) spreads out on both sides of the Russian River.

You'll be delighted by tranquil views of the river and redwoods at the 10-room Village Inn & Restaurant, which was built in 1906 as a private home.  Nearby is the charming Inn on the Russian River, where some of the stylish cabins include kitchens and kitchenettes, inviting an even more leisurely stay.

Cloverdale

The northernmost town in Sonoma County, sleepy Cloverdale unfurls across the Alexander Valley wine region in ribbons of oak-studded hills, small farms, and vineyards.

Here you'll find the ranch-style Old Crocker Inn, a 19th-century bed & breakfast retreat where lush landscaping surrounds the outdoor pool, pets and families are welcome, and in-room massages are on the menu.

TAG Approved Lodgings

When lodging is TAG Approved, this means the International LGBTQ+ Travel Association's Travel Advocacy Group has deemed it LGBTQA-owned and/or LGBTQA-friendly.  In Sonoma County, Tag Approved accommodations include the Japanese-style Gaige House + Ryokan in Glen Ellen.

Pride Partner Hotels

In a strong display of allyship with the LGBTQA  community, two Sonoma County accommodations have partnered with Sonoma County Pride in 2022—the sleek Flamingo Resort  and the Marriott-branded Lodge at Sonoma Resort. Gay-friendly lodgings who partnered with Pride in 2021 include three Santa Rosa properties: the urban/quirky Astro Motel, the Beaux-Arts Hotel E on Downtown's Courthouse Square, and the elegant Vintners Resort, which features a restaurant, spa, and two pools set amongst 92 acres of vineyards.
