Hot Springs in Sonoma County

Geothermal mineral springs—often called hot springs—are produced when mineralized groundwater is heated by the Earth and emerges to form pools of water. The hot springs in Sonoma County are revered for their healing properties that leave visitors feeling relaxed and renewed.

History of Sonoma County Hot Springs

For centuries, Sonoma County's geothermal springs—from Petaluma in the south to the sprawling geysers field in the north—attracted Native Americans from surrounding regions and well beyond. Many tribes considered some of the area's springs to be sacred, and would travel for days to immerse themselves in the waters. 

Today, visitors can enjoy three of Sonoma Valley's legendary hot springs, Boyes Hot Springs, Morton's Hot Springs, and Agua Caliente, for ultimate relaxation and wellbeing.

Boyes Hot Springs, Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa

In the late 20th century, Boyes Hot Springs was discovered 1,000 feet below the renowned Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, located in Sonoma. Today you can soak in the natural hot-springs waters year-round at the Fairmont Spa. Here you can gaze at crisp blue skies as your troubles melt away in different pools and soaking tubs, with temperatures ranging from 85 to 102 degrees. Keep the bliss going with a couple's massage, Reiki treatment or hydrafacial. The pools are open to both guests and non-guests of the hotel. Rates vary. 

Agua Caliente, Sonoma Aquatic Club

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Sonoma Valley near Boyes Hot Springs in Sonoma, sits Agua Caliente. For hundreds of years, people have traveled to this small town to experience its soothing mineral waters. At Sonoma Aquatic Club, you bask in the healing nature of these curative springs while overlooking the luscious landscapes of local vineyards and wineries. This family-friendly facility offers three heated pools, including an outdoor covered spa. While membership at the club is required, they do offer one-day passes for those on vacation in Sonoma County.

Morton's Warm Springs, Glen Ellen

About four miles from Glen Ellen's village center and surrounded by verdant outstretched arms of beautiful heritage oaks, the 20-acre grounds of Morton's Warm Springs features three bubbling pools of mineral springs. Imagine lounging in plush chaises while sipping organic smoothies before taking a soothing dip in the warm waters of the curing springs...complete bliss. Morton's is open May through September. Reservations are required.
