Fly directly into Sonoma County on Alaska Airlines and be tasting wine mere minutes after getting off the plane.

Sonoma County offers direct air service at the Charles M. Schulz — Sonoma County Airport (STS), named after long-time Santa Rosa resident Charles M. Schulz (creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip).

Direct flights to and from Los Angeles, Orange County, Portland, San Diego, and Seattle are offered daily on Alaska Airlines.

Wine flies free

If you book through Alaska Airlines, up to a case of wine is included as part of your free luggage allowance on flights originating from Sonoma County Airport.

You buy the wine; they'll ship it home for free, provided it’s packed for shipping. Just make sure your mileage plan number is in your reservation and your wine flies free.*

Alaska’s mileage plan program gives you access to more than 700 destinations worldwide across 14 airline partners. Not a member?  Join for free.

Other ways to bring home your wine

If you have only a few bottles, pack them into individual WineSkins (sold at most tasting rooms). The sealable, bubble-wrapped encased package will keep the rest of your suitcase’s contents dry and free of stains, in case of breakage. These aren’t allowed on carry ons, because the wine bottle is over the TSA limits.

The Wine Check is reusable luggage that can be safely packed with up to a case of bottles, while staying under the 50-pound weight limit. Your wine stays protected and the rolling bag makes it easy to navigate. Purchase a Wine Check at the Sky Lounge Restaurant in the Sonoma County Airport or at local wineries, or order online from Wine Check.

Fly With Wine sells the VinGarde Valise. This wine luggage is designed exclusively for safely transporting wine, with a 100% polycarbonate shell and is guaranteed to keep wine safe during travel. Their products conform to all applicable TSA, FAA, and airline luggage standards. In most cases, fully loaded with wine, it still weighs less than 50 lbs.

With more than 425 wineries to choose from, it’s a breeze to pick out some delicious Sonoma County wine to accompany you home.

*The wine must be safely packaged for transport in a protective shipping container. The TSA asks that containers not be sealed, but remain open for inspection. The first case free program applies to all out-bound destinations in the United States and Canada destinations served by Alaska Airlines. It does not apply to international destinations. Advise the Alaska Air Customer Service Agent when you check in so the box can be properly labeled with FRAGILE stickers. Items packaged in cardboard boxes are covered in case of loss, but are checked at your own risk for damage.
